Alpha Chi Pi Pageant Sorority to Support Queens for a Cure

Current and former queens  to raise money for American Cancer Society

The newly formed Alpha Chi Pi Pageant Sorority has chosen Queens for a Cure as its official charity for 2007.  Current and former pageant titleholders and queens from all across the country who are members of the Alpha Chi Pi Pageant Sorority hope to raise at least ten thousand dollars in 2007 for Queens for a Cure, which works in partnership with the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research.

Queens for a Cure was founded by Lacie Smith, a former Miss Georgia American Coed.  Lacie started Queens for a Cure when she was 17 years old after she lost her two grandfathers to cancer.  It is an organization that was created to involve, inspire and unite pageant queens to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society, and to raise hope for those who have been affected by this terrible disease.

Lacie Smith believes that fighting cancer should be a team effort.  “The strength of people coming together for a common cause is greater than the strength of one. Queens for a Cure provides an opportunity for pageant title holders, their families and friends to work toward the common goal of eliminating cancer as a health threat. Queens for a Cure promotes cancer awareness through our communities and provides hope and encouragement to survivors and their families.  It is a great honor that Queens for a Cure has been chosen by the Alpha Pi Chi pageant sorority to be adopted as their national philanthropy!”

The Alpha Chi Pi Pageant Sorority was formed in 2006 by George and Sara Scarborough, who have been pageant directors with the Miss American Coed Pageant system for the past 24 years.  According to Sara Scarborough, “our goal in forming Alpha Chi Pi was to bring together pageant directors and current and former pageant titleholders from all pageant systems to create a national voice for the pageant industry and to collectively raise money for charitable causes.”

Alpha Chi Pi currently has about 250 members from 35 states around the country, and the membership is growing rapidly.
